They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village.
When he had spit on the man's eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes.
Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
Mark 8:22-25
This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who depends on flesh for his strength
and whose heart turns away from the Lord...
“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
Jeremiah 17:5, 7
In the above passage in the book of Mark, the Lord Jesus restores sight to a blind man.
This person had never encountered Jesus before, but when he did, his life was changed in a moment, his eyes opened, and he saw everything clearly.
There are many who are "blind" and "deaf" today.
They go through the routine of daily life but they are in darkness.
They have heard about Jesus, some even attending church, but they have never had that life changing face-to-face encounter with Him, never met Him.
Jesus responded to the request to come give sight to this man, and in the same way we can call on Him today, and he will move at the sound of the voices of those who believe and trust in Him.
But cursed is the one who trusts in man; there is no counselor, no therapist, no doctor that can give us what we long for in our soul's cry: the abundant life that comes from trusting and believing in the Lord alone.
Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.
In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles,
by the way of the sea, along the Jordan—
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.
Isaiah 9:1, 2
