What Does Love Look Like/Valentines

"We can love because He first loved us.
1John 4:19
"Love never fails."
1Cor.13:8a
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
1 Cor.13:4
"Greater love have no man than to lay down his life for his friends"
John 15:13

"Valentine's Day (shortened from Saint Valentine's Day) is a day that has generally come to be known as a holiday for those intimately involved, a romantic holiday. But most people would be surprised to discover the origins of the holiday actually commemorated the martyrdoms of two early Christian St. Valentines - St. Valentine of Rome and st. Vanlentine of Terni.
Martyred for their faith...killed for being Christians...laying down theirs lives...as many are around the world right now (and the numbers are growing)... let that sink in...consider...what does it take, what kind of impact does the Lord Jesus make on a person, that they will not back down, not loving their earthly lives even unto death?
The real message of Valentine's Day is one of love, but perhaps much different than what the world portrays or imagines- not romantic love, sensual passion, or Eros, but the kind of Love that never fails, that is stronger than death, the kind of love that caused Jesus to bear so much scorn and suffer the payment for our sins on that cross, to die - and be resurrected, conquering death for us...for us...for His love for us.
So as imitators of the Lord Jesus, we follow his example, His way of Love ...extravagant, enduring and bearing all things, covering multitudes of sins, greater than hope and faith, protecting, trusting, persevering, rejoicing in truth, and so much more.
Love today.
