“For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, I dwell in a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.” Isaiah 57:15
“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” Psalm 3:19
“Revive me according to Your loving kindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.” Psalm 119:88
"We love because He first loved us"
1 John 4:19
Repentance...refreshing...revival...renewal...
Biblical Israel, God's Chosen people, were always in a state of flux througout their history, they would be in a great place of surrender, obedience, and enjoying peace and prosperity as they are blessed by the Lord. Over time, though, complacency and lukewarm attitudes crept in, along with idolatry, and all of the manifestations of backsliding. The people then paid a heavy price as the blessings and protection of the Father were removed, after which repentance would fall, revival would come, and the people restored.
Their history is a reflection of our personal histories.
We get up...we fall down...we get up. I once heard, "the difference between saints and sinners is that saints keep getting up. We are flawed, imperfect creatures, it is incumbent on us to fix our eyes on perfection- Jesus. He loved us first, and it's God's lovingkindness that brings us to repentance when we slip from a high and lofty place. Revival is never far away, as long as we are willing to turn from wickedness, confess our mess-ups, and fall back into the loving arms of our Father/Bridegroom/King.
