Restorations and Fulfillment

When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion,
we were like men who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”
The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.
Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like streams in the Negev.
Those who sow in tears
will reap with songs of joy.
He who goes out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with him.
Psalm 126:1-6

"Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like streams in the Negev.
" ...
Having lived in Israel, and been to areas where there are dry river beds in the arid seasons, I understand this metaphor, and the power of this scripture. The authorities have signs in many places, warning travellers not to stand in these wadis in the wet season because one moment it's dry and in the next, the waters come cascading though with unimaginable abundance and power, sweeping away everything that had been there a moment before!
This is a staggering picture of the Lord's heavenly mechanics. Dry seasons, those desert experiences, can be swept away, adversity overcome and reversed suddenly.
Wherever you are, if you find yourself standing in a dry riverbed, do not despair.
Pray, trust and lean on Him, persevere...listen for it, the rain is coming!
