Others

"You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God."
James 4:2

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves."
Phil.2:3

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;"
Romans 12:10

Is selfishness the root of all evil? Perhaps, perhaps not...but there is no denying that nothing but trouble comes when we are "looking out for #1", as the world we live in would have us buy into. The scriptures tell us to be devoted to one another, placing a higher value on others than ourselves, honoring others, without selfish ambition or vain conceit. Jesus said that we should give...that it is better to give than to receive, freely we have received...freely give. To me, the richest part of being a giver and the most valuable things we can give is not mammon, although this can be a great blessing too...it's ourselves, part of valuing others higher than ourselves, not just in theory but in practical everyday life. Letting someone go in front of you in traffic, in a line, at a coffee machine, holding the door for someone, saying something nice or comforting, buying a meal for someone, paying a friend a compliment...slowing down enough in a busy home to say, "I love you" to your spouse or children...
We reap what we sow...today sow seeds of humility, love, kindness.
The harvest we will reap will be awesome.
