Surpassing Knowledge

"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17b-19

Paul's prayer is that we would be given the ability to grasp and know what is otherwise impossible with a natural mind, which is the vastness of Jesus' love for us. In the natural, when I think of a visual representation of "vast" as in "wide, long, deep, and high", I think of the Grand Canyon, or the Atlantic Ocean.
We "know" that Jesus loves us, and that He shed His blood for us, His death being the propitiation for our sins, but there is a huge difference between academic-head-knowledge "knowing", and that revelation of Jesus' raging, furious, willing-to-die-for-us love that He has for us, his Bride. There are simply no words that can explain what the Holy Spirit reveals about how He loves us.
Why does Paul pray this for us all? Because when we "get it", everything changes ....everything. It is this revelation that fueled Paul, John, James, Stephen, John Bradford,Count Zinzendorf and the Moravians, Dietrich Bonnhoeffer, and the countless others that have taken their place as part of the great cloud of witnesses we will someday dine with at the ultimate wedding feast.
Have you gotten it, do you "get it"...to know the unknowable, beloved?
Grab hold of it today, hang on to His furious love.
