What goes into a man's mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.’ ”
“Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man ‘unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’ ”
Matt. 15:11,17-20
The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
Jer. 17:9
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11
One of the oldest philosophical discussions revolves around the concept of Original Sin, and whether the heart of man is naturally good or evil. Children from the earliest ages do not have to be taught disobedience- it comes naturally. If we are honest with ourselves we must admit that we are full of darkness when left to ourselves. The word says that evil is bound up in the heart of children, in Jeremiah it reads that the heart is "deceitful above all things" ...Paul said about himself regarding his unknown struggles against his sin nature that "he was wretched man"...
There is no triumph of the human spirit, without triumph in the Holy Spirit. To declare otherwise is prideful and arrogant. Pride goes before a fall.
By hiding the living and active Word in our hearts, our deceitful sin nature can be overcome, performing supernatural heart surgery!
