Praise/Peer Pressure

"Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved human praise more than praise from God."
John 12:42,43

Peer pressure can be a powerful obstacle to doing the right thing, when we are afraid to acknowledge what we know clearly is the truth because of those around us! The words of Jesus's own voice fell on the ears of Israel's Sanhedrin, and even though some believed, they feared retribution, criticism, and perhaps forthcoming persecution. But beyond that we read in this scripture that they loved human praise more than praise from God Himself! When faced with a situation where we feel hindered from openly acknowledging our faith and adoration in our Bridegroom/Father/Lord, I believe that the Master weighs our heart's intentions…what holds us back? Are we fearful, or do we love being the beneficiaries of misplaced praise that is heaped on us instead of the only One who is worthy? Today, beloved, let's not fear retribution for doing what we were created to do: to praise and worship the Lord alone! He is worthy, if we don't praise Him, even the stones will cry out! "Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, His greatness no one can fathom."
